ITALY AGAIN IN THE TOP FOUR TEAMS AT EDINBURGH’S EURO CUP Fantastic effort of the Azzurri Team, which confirms the 4th place overall in the final ranking of Euro Cup 2012 in Edinburgh, same as last year’s Belfast edition. The result is outstanding, also due to the fact that the italian side was missing some key players, including Bruno Nugnes, best goalkicker “all-time” for Italy and Seba Caffaratti, who had last year’s nomination in the all-tournament team. But all the boys who played in Edinburgh gave their best, with some spectacular plays, and grabbing a fully-deserved preliminary final berth. Coaches Armando Colombo and Nicola Giampaolo said they were extremely satisfied with the team effort, and the discipline and pace showed on the pitch, with a great defensive work, that permitted Italy to reach the preliminary final conceding the opponents just 3 goals in 4 matches, 2 of them in the last minute of a game easily dominated and already won. The first game of the day was a hard fought match in slippery condition, in which Italy defeated arch rivals Germany by just 2 points. Then came 2 great wins with Wales and Iceland, and the italian side won their pool with full points. In the quarter final Italy played one of its best game ever dominating and defeating Finland for 6 goals to 0. In the preliminary final, after a good start Italy was clearly defeated by the young, strong and talented Danish side; England then won easily the battle for third place, even if the Azzurri never gave up, till the end. In the Grand Final, Ireland clinched back-to-back wins, defeating the outstanding Danish team coming from 11 points behind in the last minute of the game, to win by one point. During the final ceremony to top off a spectacular day for Italy, players Giovanni Alloisio and Niccolò De Giorgi were nominated in the all-tournament team, voted by the AFL Europe Commitee.
